Comet (UK stores)
From battery charging to a national electrical chain.
The story of Comet (UK stores)
Comet began in Hull in 1933 as a battery-charging business founded by George Hollingbery, later expanding into radios and electrical retail. Its UK high-street and retail-park store chain entered administration in 2012 and closed its stores that December. The Comet name has subsequently been used again online, so the former store chain should not be described as the entire brand being permanently extinct.
