The business expanded under Lalani family ownership, including acquisitions of other discount chains. Poundland acquired 99p Stores in 2015 after regulatory scrutiny.
Decline and administration
99p Stores did not undergo a chain-wide administration at the time its fascia disappeared: Poundland converted its shops to the Poundland brand after the acquisition. The story is one of consolidation rather than insolvency.

The Poundland acquisition was announced at approximately £55m enterprise value in 2015. The purchase price is not the same as 99p Stores annual revenue or profit.
