Clinton Cards became one of the best-known specialist greeting-card chains in Britain, selling cards, gift wrap and small presents for birthdays and seasonal occasions. The company expanded nationwide before entering administration in 2012; the trading business was subsequently acquired and the brand continued in various forms.

Founders and origins
Don Lewin founded Clinton Cards in 1968, opening a greeting-card shop in Epping, Essex. The chain expanded nationwide selling cards, gift wrap and seasonal gifts.
Ownership through the years
The business grew as a listed company. American Greetings acquired the brand and parts of the estate after the 2012 administration. Subsequent owners and restructurings included interests associated with the Weiss family.
Decline and administration
The original listed retailer entered administration in May 2012 amid weak trading, high rents and debt. Later administrations or restructuring of successor companies must be treated as separate events, not one continuous liquidation.
Financial performance and scale
At the 2012 failure the wider Clinton Cards/Birthdays operation included hundreds of stores and thousands of employees. Group totals should not be attributed to Clinton-branded shops alone.
Who owns the brand today?
The Clintons brand has continued in retail under successor owners. Current proprietor of individual Clinton Cards/Clintons trademarks should be verified with UK IPO records.
